South Gateway Rock

Garden of the Gods

Perkins Central Garden trail

South Gateway Rock

There are two large rock formationsas you enter the Garden of the Gods called the Gateway rocks. This is a picture of the South Gateway rock.  If you look you can see the road that goes toward the opening to the right of this rock, that is the entrance road to Garden of the Gods.  The road does not proceed through the Gateway rocks, but turns to the right and goes around the north end of the park, and there is a parking lot at the trailhead of Perkins Central Garden Trail which goes along side the North Gateway rock and the hiking trail curves and goes through the Gateway created by these two large rock formations.

This trail is ideal for everyone.  I have degenerative disc disease in my back, arthritis in my right knee, and COPD, we have and not just the boy that does not walk well, and my wife has arthritis and many other body panes herself.  Yet we all had an enjoyable walk along this trail.

The Perkins Central Garden Trail is paved and is suitable for strollers, wheelchairs, crutches and canes, and children of all ages both young and old.  If you walk the entire loop of this trail, the trail is about 1 1/2 miles long and has an altitude variation of about 30 feet.
