Granite Colorado Ghost Town
Granite Colorado Ghost Town is in Chaffee County, which is near Buena Vista. Granite is, in all sense of the word, a ghost town. Granite is only one of many ghost towns located in Chaffee and Lake Countys in the mountains of Colorado. Granite is located 17 miles North of Buena Vista, on Hwy 24. See the "Ghost Town" index for more ghost towns in Chaffee County, and Lake County, Colorado.
In the late 1800's Granite had a population of more than 2000! In fact, Granite served as the County Seat for Lake County, which encompassed all of the land that is now part of Lake County and Chaffee County. Now the population according to bestplaces.com, is 103, however I found another site that said it was only 9 in the winter months. Granite has one general store, that doubles as the town post office. Guess that gives you an idea of just how small Granite is now days, and it is only open during the summer months!
If you Google Granite, Colorado Ghost Town, you'll find little to no information at all. If you have Google Earth, you'll see that there really is nothing there at all. I'm not sure if there are any residents there today or not. The two sites mentioned above says that there are residents. Regardless, sounds like a cool little town to me, and I say... Cool beanz!!!
